If your rent has increased, it means that you have been in your flat for at least a year, and we'd like to thank you for that!
More specifically, article 9 of your lease states that your rent will be revised each year on the basis of the change in the Rent Reference Index (Indice de Référence des Loyers or IRL for short) published quarterly by INSEE.
What is “IRL”?
The quarterly Rent Reference Index (Indice de Référence des Loyers or IRL), was created by Law No. 2008-111 of 8th February 2008 for “le pouvoir d’achat”, or purchasing power, "corresponds to the average change in consumer prices excluding tobacco and excluding rents over the last twelve months".
A more complete definition can be found on the INSEE website.
The Rent Reference Index (IRL) is used as the basis for revising rents for both vacant and furnished accommodation. The annual change in the IRL determines the maximum rent increase that the landlord can apply for the year.
Our team therefore consults the latest index that is available (which can be found on the public service website) to determine the index for your rent increase on each anniversary of the start date of your contract.
